Like A Jealous BFF, Gingrich Accuses Romney Of ‘Sucking Up’ To Trump

“You have never, ever in your career seen a serious adult who’s wealthy, independent, has been a presidential nominee, suck up at the rate that Mitt Romney is sucking up.”

Newt Gingrich

Before Newt Gingrich was going around parading himself as a top Donald Trump fan, he was rather critical of the billionaire business mogul.

Earlier this year, before he was in the running to be Trump’s potential running mate, Gingrich was telling Republicans behind closed doors that the former reality TV star spoke to voters “at the lowest level of any candidate in either party.” He also reportedly compared Trump’s campaign moves to the “language for fourth-graders.”

While skeptical at first, Gingrich started singing a different tune as soon as Trump became the front-runner and remained by the president-elect’s side even when he chose Mike Pence over Gingrich to be his right-hand man.

However, now that someone else — someone significantly more important than Gingrich — is trying to do the same thing by conveniently forgetting his past criticism and worm his way into Trump’s administration, the former speaker of the house seems a little upset.

Commenting on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s awkward dinner date summit with the future commander-in-chief, Gingrich said the entire thing reminds him of scene from the 1990 romantic comedy “Pretty Woman.”

“There’s a scene in ‘Pretty Woman,’ where Richard Gere goes up to the salesman on Rodeo Drive and says, ‘We need a little sucking up here,’” Gingrich told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham.

Romney, Trump’s potential pick for the secretary of state, previously branded the businessman as a “phony, fraud” playing the “American public for suckers.” Now, he has “increasing hope” that a Trump presidency could steer the country toward a “better future.”

“You have never, ever in your career seen a serious adult who’s wealthy, independent, has been a presidential nominee, suck up at the rate that Mitt Romney is sucking up,” Gingrich continued. “And I am confident that he thinks now that Donald Trump is one of his closest friends, that they have so many things in common, that they’re both such wise, brilliant people.”

Wow. Looks like someone is still fuming over losing the GOP presidential nomination to Romney back in 2012.
