NJ Man Accused Of Imprisoning Woman Due In Court

A New Jersey man accused of holding his girlfriend captive for years is scheduled to make a court appearance Tuesday.

Forty-two-year-old Michael Mendez was arrested Thursday at his apartment in Paterson.

While searching for illegal drugs, state police say they found a woman inside a padlocked bedroom.

They say based on interviews and evidence, the woman may have been kept in the bedroom for extended periods of time for the last two years — and possibly for up to 10 years.

Neighbors say they saw the woman rarely over the last few years.

Mendez faces charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment as well as drug charges.
