Proverbially speaking, North Korea is decades behind the rest of the world, but that's literally the case as far as its national airline is concerned.
Air Koryo was founded in 1950 to connect the hostile Korean side with its fellow communist partner over in Russia. A Singaporean photographer Aram Pan recently flew into Pyongyang on Air Koryo's plane and was astonished to learn that most of the carriers in operation are at least half a century or so old. In fact, some of the aircrafts are from the very first fleet acquired from Russia back in the '50s.
