As all things North Korean, this piece of news also comes wrapped in mystery and controversy.

According to the South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo the ex-girlfriend of North Korean leader Kim-Jong-un was one of a dozen people reportedly executed by a firing squad last week.

The South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported that singer Hyon Song-wol and 11 others had been arrested on August 17 for violating North Korea's laws against pornography and was executed three days later.

"They were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wangjaesan Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on," a source told the paper.

She is the same lady who appeared in March 2012 when she performed in Pyongyang to mark International Women’s Day and later in July 2012 when Kim Jong Un appeared by a mystery lady by his side, she was thought to be none other than Hyon Song-wol. However, later North Korean television announced that the lady was in fact Kim Jong-un's wife, Ri Sol-ju, and not Hyon.

Kim Jong-un indeed, in fact had a relationship with Hyon Song-wol about  a decade ago but they split up as his father Kim Jong-il did not approve.

There’s no way of knowing yet if the news is accurate or not, but knowing North Korea, it is not impossible. We certainly hope not, but we don’t hold much hope!
