The North Korean leader begins a troop inspection amid rising tension on the peninsular.
State television showed Kim Jong-Un on Thursday (March 7) visiting two military units near its sea border with the South.
The state news agency said he urged the soldiers to respond to any attack.
The footage was released as the United Nations approved new sanctions targeting the North nuclear and missile programmes.
South Korea's defence ministry welcomed the move, and said they are ready to act if provoked.
Tension has risen in recent days as North Korea threatened the U.S. with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.
