A photo of a note shared on Reddit has gone viral as it shows one person’s kind gesture toward the Muslim community after Donald Trump’s election.

Following the election of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States on Tuesday, minorities have experienced harassment and hate at alarming rates within just two days.

It’s no secret that Trump’s entire campaign normalized and mainstreamed racism and hate, however, there are still many Americans who choose love.

A Reddit user shared a photo of a heartwarming note he saw pinned to the door of a mosque in Fishers, Indiana. A “concerned neighbor” left the letter reminding Muslims that they have allies in this fight against Islamophobia. The note reads:

“I am sure things must be scary for you all right now. I hope the coming weeks and months are peaceful, but no matter what, please know that many of us appreciate what you bring to this community and wish you nothing but love. Thank you.

 A concerned neighbor.”

The note was clearly meant to express solidarity with the Muslim community, but some commenters didn’t believe it came across that way. Several people said they felt the letter seemed condescending and that it sounded self-righteous.

However others, including some who said they identify as Muslim, were all for it and expressed that the note showed compassion and empathy.

Ultimately, no matter how you look at it, anyone would likely prefer to receive a note with a few kind words attached to their door as opposed to the vandalism, arson, and dead animal carcasses that many Muslims throughout the nation have been subjected to as the spread of Islamophobia continues to threaten their communities.
