Frustrated with the apparent impossibility of dealing with the Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu, a senior Obama administration officer allegedly said, “The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickenshit.”
“The good thing about Netanyahu is that he’s scared to launch wars,” the official allegedly told The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. At the same time, the official added, “The bad thing about him is that he won’t do anything to reach an accommodation with the Palestinians or with the Sunni Arab states.”
Though the comment may indicate relations between the Obama and Netanyahu governments are moving toward a crisis, it is misleading. Bibi, or Benjamin Netanyahu is not chickenshit.
He is a force to be reckoned with and – it would not be an exaggeration to say – a monster created by the United States, spiraling out of control.
The American administration’s annoyance is understandable. Netanyahu is beyond listening to any reason and acts belligerently without giving concern to either friend or foe.
Here is just a glimpse:
Despite the world crying out for human rights and peace in the Middle East, he pushes forward with his housing plan in East Jerusalem, blatantly announcing to keep “building in all of Jerusalem.” He goes against the U.S. and EU saying it wasn’t the building in the city but the condemnation of it that was hindering peace. In fact, he openly said that it’s anti-Semitic to accuse Israel of war crimes or violating human rights.
On top of it all, every time there is a possibility of even presenting a peace proposition, the process is mainly disrupted due to the continuous expansions in Jerusalem and the West Bank under Netanyahu’s orders.

Same is the case with any efforts to mend things with Iran. He scoffs at any attempts from Iran toward softening of stances and does not think twice about throwing a spanner or two at the most inopportune of moments.

Is the man chickenshit if even the United Nations is reduced to covering up for it?
When, after a month long “Operation Protective Edge,” the U.N. summoned an international commission of inquiry into possible war crimes committed by both sides, Israel dismissed the inquiry as a U.N. Human Rights Council "kangaroo court."
What’s more U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon himself is known to have asked the members of the Security Council “not to take into account the report submitted by the U.N. Board of Inquiry that accused Israel of targeting U.N. buildings in Gaza in December 2008 and January 2009."
Clearly Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu is not chickenshit – far from it in fact.
