“There's something wrong with Opie,” 5-year-old Eli told his mother as he looked out the window after hearing a loud bang outside his house.

Eli Malone from Wynnewood, Oklahoma, had to spend his fifth birthday in mourning after a police officer fatally shot his dog with an AR-15 by mistake.

As the little boy prepared to cut the cake with his friends and mother Vickie inside his house, they all heard a loud bang.

As Eli looked out the window, he saw his beloved pet Opie bleeding on the ground. He turned to his mother saying, “There's something wrong with Opie.”

As adults ran outside to find out what happened, they discovered they family dog lying on his side “kicking and gasping for air,” according to Vickie.

It was later revealed that the cop who killed Opie was serving a warrant for a person who lived in the Malones' home 10 years ago.

The unnamed officer claimed he shot the dog after it charged toward him in an aggressive manner over the fence.

However, footage of the scenes that unfolded after the shooting shows Opie lying on the ground near the fence, not the house, his head lying in a pool of blood.

“I respect what the police do, but this was senseless, but he didn’t show any remorse and didn’t even act like he was sorry or anything,” Vickie Malone told Fox 25.

Eli, understandably is distraught. He wishes “someone from the Wynnewood Police would at least apologize for killing his friend.”
