With his boyish looks and undeniable diving talent, Tom Daley captivated his nation and much of the world during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Though he was only 18 years old during The Games and had the hopes of the hosting nation on his shoulders, Daley kept the focus and determination needed to win a bronze medal in London.
But what he did Monday might have been his most brave leap yet.
Daley announced on YouTube that he's been dating a guy and he's happier than he's ever been in his life.
“Of course I still fancy girls," Daley said in the five minute video. "But I mean, right now I’m dating a guy and I couldn’t be happier. It makes me feel safe and just really does feel right."
High-profile people in and out of the LGBT community showed their support for Daley on Twitter.
Tom Daley just made it 100 times easier for confused young gay men to come out and lead open, happier lives - good for him. @TomDaley1994— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 2, 2013
And some were even relieved to hear the news.
I’m relieved to know that all of my panting over @TomDaley1994 at the Summer Olympics wasn’t completely misguided.— Neil Patrick Harris (@ActuallyNPH) December 2, 2013
