One Worker In Stimson Lumber Explosion Has Died, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue Says

A worker who was injured in an explosion Wednesday afternoon at Stimson Lumber in Gaston has died, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue. The worker reportedly was transported by a Life Flight Network helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. The worker's name has not been released.

One workers has died after an explosion Wednesday afternoon at Stimson Lumber in Gaston. Two other workers were injured.

A worker who was injured in an explosion Wednesday afternoon at Stimson Lumber in Gaston has died, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

The worker reportedly was transported by a Life Flight Network helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. The worker's name has not been released.

Two other workers were also injured in the explosion, fire officials say.   

The second employee was transported by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital and entered into the trauma system, said Ken Bilderback, Gaston Rural Fire District spokesman. The third person was taken to Tuality Community Hospital, with injuries described to be not life-threatening.

Bilderback said that a hydraulic accumulator exploded.

About 12:40 p.m., fire crews from Forest Grove, Gaston and Cornelius were called to Stimson Lumber, at 49800 S.W. Scoggins Valley Road in Gaston. Bilderback said that the building was not significantly damaged.
