A group of hacktivists, commonly known as ‘Anonymous’, has planned a major cyber attack on U.S. government websites today.

The ‘hack attack’ has been given the hashtag #OpUSA on Twitter and is focused on bringing down major American websites which, according to the hacktivists, is their protest against the U.S. foreign policy.

The online targets include the White house, the Defense Department, the FBI, the Pentagon and the Bank of America websites. On a file-sharing website Pastebin, the Anonymous group has posted that the attack on May 7 will be a day to remember:

Greetings Obama and USA citizens. We are the N4m3le55 Cr3w. Anonymous will make sure that's this May 7th will be a day to remember. On that day anonymous will start phase one of operation USA. America you have committed multiple war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and recently you have committed war crimes in your own country. You have killed hundreds of innocent children and families with drones, guns, and now bombs. America you have hit thousands of people where it hurts them, now it is our time for our Lulz. For this you shall pay.”

A Twitter source has said that Facebook has banned the N4m3le55 Cr3w 2.0 account because they support #OpUSA:

Just last month, the same Hacktivist group attacked several Israeli government websites. The attack was live-tweeted on Twitter and was able to bring down several important websites for a while.

It remains to be seen whether or not Anonymous will be successful in carrying out #OpUSA.
