A Kappa Sigma theme party held Duke University's Kappa Sigma chapter has shaken things up quite a bit and drawn serious backlash from the Asian community and others at the University.
Members of the Asian Students Association at Duke were incensed over a fraternity's decision to throw a themed party with offensive Asian stereotypes, including conical hats and geisha outfits.
Flyers as well as emails were sent out by Asian American students in protest of the party, and all the other racist and sexist marginalization that apparently takes place at Duke!
The flyers included emails sent out to party invitees as well as photographs of students at the party, which were taken from Facebook.
The flyers imposed text over the message calling the party a "racist rager" and speculated that Kappa Sigma may lose its charter, sarcastically writing "Nice one, Broseph Stalin!!!!! You won't get unchartered for this!!! ;)."
Not only that, Twitter also went a-buzz with retribution!
In solidarity with those protesting the #racistrager at Duke University: give them hell.— Moses Sumney (@MosesSumney) February 6, 2013
Anyone else absolutely disgusted by this whole #racistrager at Duke Uni or is it just me?— Brie J. (@sunshinenicai) February 6, 2013
There should be frat parties where you dress up like white people & revel in your white privilege & get white person wasted #racistrager— jjjaaadddeee (@ntihoney) February 6, 2013
Ironically Kappa Sigma was disbanded in 2002 and just got welcomed back on campus and into the Inter-fraternity Council (IFC) last year. They may be in trouble again!
