Every country seems to have their own exam - given to teenagers - that will seemingly decide their entire worth as a human now and forever. Parents are notoriously overinvolved in their children’s performance on these exams, and often willing to do whatever it takes to make sure their kids do well. In France, the high-stress test is the English Baccalauréat exam. One Paris mother decided to skip the formalities and simply take her daughter’s exam for her. Now she’s under arrest.
The mother reportedly dressed in converse boots, jeans, and heavy make-up in an attempt to sub in for her 19-year-old daughter. The mother actually managed to work for two hours of the three-hour test before police escorted her out of the exam room. Test prompters knew the mother didn’t belong, but didn’t want to disturb other test takers with a full-scale arrest in the exam hall.
Thankfully, once caught, the mother left the facility without incident.
Police are still unsure what the mother and daughter will be charged for, and what kind of penalty is appropriate. It is increasingly common for students to pay other people to test for them, but never before has a mom taken on the role.
The mother’s test will never be scored. It’s too bad; I’d like to see how she did.
