Pat Robertson is not what you’d call a progressive in most instances, but for a popular religious figure, he has some progressive beliefs: evolution happened, the Earth is millions of years old, and dinosaurs predated humans by a long long time.

Pat Robertson is not what you’d call a progressive in most instances, but for a popular religious figure, he has some progressive beliefs: evolution happened, the Earth is millions of years old, and dinosaurs predated humans by a long long time.

The weight of scientific evidence trumps the calculations made based on the Book of Genesis, and he’s made it a cause of his to try and get creationists on board with stuff that scientists have accepted for decades.

This is not the first time Pat Robertson has said something like this, but let’s not anoint him the leader of objective facts just yet. Robertson has also claimed that demons can attach themselves to clothes and inanimate objects, that teen suicide is linked to “demonic games” like Dungeons and Dragons, and that the Earth is going through global cooling.

But hey, on the subject of the age of the Earth, he’s ahead of Presidential hopeful Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
