Arrowsmith’s five-year prison sentence was reduced to just 10 months, despite him owning the worst kinds of child porn videos.

The case of a pedophile who managed to avoid jail by citing he wanted to become a father is irony at its worst.

Richard Arrowsmith, 41, of Derbyshire, England, pleaded guilty to having an astounding 137,000 pictures and 4,336 videos of child sex abuse — hundreds of which were catalogued as the very worst kind, Category A videos — on his computer.

The man, who has a wife who supports him, admitted to downloading all the videos and pictures from various websites over the period of “four years or so,” but claimed he never shared them with anyone else.

The pervert was arrested in February after police received a tip that the IP address linked to his Sky account was being used to download the depraved images. Officers arrived with a warrant for his arrest at his home on April and confiscated his computer, hard drives, laptop, cell phone and memory sticks.

Arrowsmith faced up to five years in prison — but left with only a suspended sentence after Recorder Martin Butterworth at the Derby County Court learned he wanted to start a family and was trying for a child with his wife.

Sentencing the man to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, Butterworth cited his “good character” for the lenient punishment.

“You are 41 years old, with no previous convictions and you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. I am taking into consideration your previous good character, you have a wife who supports you, a steady employment and your hopes to start a family in the near future,” Butterworth said.

“These are not victimless crimes, they encourage serious abuse of sometimes very young children,” the recorder said. “You were less than honest about the nature of the images.”

Arrowsmith also had to pay a fine of $250 and carry out 160 hours of community service as well as being subjected to a curfew between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. He was also ordered to sign the sex offender register and was banned from working with children.
