One of the ways people are protesting last Tuesday’s election results is by making donations to Planned Parenthood.
The Huffington Post reported on Monday that people are donating to Planned Parenthood ironically using the name of anti-abortion extremist, Mike Pence. Now, he will receive a mountain of thank-you letters from the headquarters of the prominent pro-choice organization.
Also just made a Planned Parenthood donation in Mike Pence's name, cause I'm that level of petty. ????— Samantha Lee (@sleenieto) November 13, 2016

internet: "u can make an honorary donation to planned parenthood in mike pence's name"
On Saturday, artist Bethany Cosentino of the band Best Coast posted a screenshot on Instagram which read, “You can make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name and he’ll receive the certificate of the donation.” According to CNN, celebrities Amy Schumer and Amber Tamblyn have also brought attention to the cause.
The Vice President-elect, who is an evangelical Catholic, is widely known for his pro-life policies as an Indiana representative and governor. His policies have translated into cutting funds for abortion clinics and even closures of Planned Parenthood clinics, in some cases.
Pence is known to have once said, “I long for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history, when we move past the broken hearts and the broken lives of the past 38 years.”
Accordingly, the idea behind the protest was to flood Pence’s office with thousands of thank-you letters from the organization. If a person makes a donation to Planned Parenthood, they or the person they donated in honor of will receive a certificate of thanks.
As a symbolic slap in the face for calling to cut off Planned Parenthood’s federal funding, people on social media are proudly posting screenshots of their donations in honor of Pence.

Planned Parenthood responded on Twitter to say thanks to the many who have donated. Since the election, they have received nearly 80,000 donations, Time reported.
Thank you so much! We've been blown away by the support we've received. Many people are donating in Clinton or Pence's name. #WeWontGoBack— Planned Parenthood (@PPact) November 12, 2016
While President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that he wishes to repeal women’s reproductive rights, Pence is right there alongside with him. As such, donations Planned Parenthood to keep their clinics open and running are tantamount to protect the physical rights women have.
