After she blocked the vehicle, police opened fire on the driver, who has since been identified as French-Tunisian delivery driver Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.

Eric Ciotti, a lawyer for the department of Alpes-Maritimes, said the unnamed woman’s courage was “extraordinary” and said that the police were able to stop Lahouaiej Bouhlel in the moment that she risked her life, according to The New York Times.

“I will never forget the look of the policewoman who intercepted the killer,” he said.

The driver allegedly tried to shoot the woman and other nearby officers but missed.

The destructive rampage occurred during a Bastille Day celebration, leaving approximately 84 people dead and 50 more “between life and death,” according to French president Francois Hollande.
