President Barack Obama said today with confidence that if he were legally eligible to run for a third term, he would win.
“I actually think I’m a pretty good president, I think if I ran I could win but I can’t,” Obama said while addressing the African Union in Ethiopia.
Obama was speaking about law and order in a democratic society and contrasting the American political system with Africa’s in that their leaders can legally rule for decades.
Although he believes could possibly win another term, Obama said he appreciates that the United States law wouldn’t allow for it.
“Nobody should be president for life, and your country is better off if you have new blood and new ideas,” Obama said. “I’m still a pretty young man, but I know that someone with new insights and new energy will be good for my country,” he added.
Obama’s prediction that he would win another election if he could came after CNN/ORC International released a poll that indicated the president’s approval rate is at 49% and his popularity is steadily rising.
Despite his bold proclamation during his speech today, Obama said he is looking forward to returning to private life with his family and finding other ways to serve following the end of his presidency.
