President Barack Obama met privately this afternoon in the Oval Office with President Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic. Obama and Fernandez discussed a number of issues facing people in the Americas. Obama expressed his appreciation for the role the Dominican played in the response to the crisis in Haiti. The two also discussed drug trafficking and crime. Obama also thanked Fernandez for the wonderful baseball players that hail from his country, including David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.
