There is little doubt about the fact that selfies are the rage, and while Ukraine may be in the middle of a bloody internal conflict, its people still manage to find the time to pose for one.

While the government in Kiev has issued a combat alert and Russia has sent thousands of troops to Crimea – a Ukrainian peninsula – people and soldiers in the embattled region are busy taking self portraits and posting them on Instagram.

Arseny Yatseniuk became the new Prime Minister of Ukraine last week, thereby taking control from pro-Moscow Viktor Yanukovich.

However, the transition of power to a pro-European Union government didn’t sit well with people who prefer integration with Russia than with the West.

Subsequently, both the groups clashed, spreading unrest throughout Ukraine.

In order to deal with the “extraordinary situation” in the country that “threatens the lives of citizens of the Russia’s compatriots", Putin asked his parliament to approve the use of force in Ukraine.

In the pictures below, pro-Russian government Ukrainians are posing with Putin’s troops for selfies.

Some of them also wrote captions hope that Russia would intervene in Ukraine.

This one says: SOS!!! HELP!!!

The caption reads: #CrimeaWar # ukraine # delight # peace troops

The man uploaded the photo saying: “We are all good”

“Sweetest guys”

This one’s a bit sarcastic. The caption says: “Horrors of occupation In Crimea” although the elderly woman is having a friendly chat – arm in arm – with the troops.

“My personal protection”

“Here they come”

“I am not shy”
