According to a recent report on a news website, real estate agencies in south Tel Aviv, Israel are advertising 'no-blacks' apartment buildings.

A somewhat similar news story has been published on a website called ‘ActiveStills.’ It is a collective which was established in 2005 by a group of Israeli and international documentary photo-graphers, out of a strong conviction that photography is a vehicle for social change, especially for their own country.

In one of their albums on the website entitled, ‘No Asylum For Refugees,’ the description reads:

The number of African asylum seekers in Israel has grown in recent years, now standing at roughly 60,000, mostly from Eritrea and Sudan. To stem the tide of arrivals the state has been pursuing a string of restrictive measures, which was added to anti-immigrant rhetoric used by government officials. In May 2012, after an anti-migrants demonstration fueled with raciest slogans by attending right-wing Knesset members, a nighttime mob attack took place against African migrants and their properties in the southern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv.”

Following these events, 972mag reports that a real estate agent said in an interview to Army Radio, “We don’t let foreign workers rent the apartments. If there are foreigners, then they’re Nepali or Filipino – normal people.” According to the news source, “Whoever listened to the radio broadcast could hear the agent say, “not blacks.” For some unknown reason, those two words were omitted from Army Radio’s report on the web.”

It’s a little vague, but what they are trying to imply is that the restrictions in Tel Aviv are getting stricter day by day. Israel’s policies towards refugees and asylum seekers are just getting out of control. For a country that boasts to be one of the most democratic countries, this is downright racist. Or maybe something even worse than racist.
