A redditor called ProZacDose on the site, a father of four children, all under the age of 12, was going through a bad time financially. He had no money to pay his bills let alone buy Christmas gifts for his children. So he wrote a letter explaining to his children why there would be no Christmas gifts this year.
“As a father of 4, I have failed,” he wrote. He explained how he failed to make ends meet, unable to pay his rent or utility bills and how things just fell apart for him and his family. “It pains me to my core, and nothing hurts more than seeing my kids go without. I honestly don't think I can bare to look into their eyes on Christmas morning, and what I will say,” he wrote. He shared the letter on Reddit because he wanted to let out his frustration, “I just wanted to vent, and perhaps cry a little, for the pain I feel for my kids. I hate myself that I could of not done better, or I could have a better job with more income. I am supposed to be a father and a provider and I can't even do that. I am dreading Christmas morning, and wish I can just escape all of this.”
It was probably the best thing to do! People felt his pain through his heartfelt letter and were immediately moved enough to get out of their way to help a stranger out of a messy situation!
“I would like to pay for your past due water bill. I am 100% serious. Please PM me to see how we can figure this out. There is no reason your children should have to do without; you are not a failure. So many of us don't realize how easy it is to get into a tough situation. We're all practically one paycheck away from it. Let me help you,” wrote a Redditor called girlinthecity
Before he knew it, offers of help started pouring in. illaqueablewrote, “I came here to say this--if girlinthecity has picked up your water bill, let me make a dent in your power bill, or in some other way help you wipe the slate clean for the new year. PM me and we'll go from there.”
When someone promised to buy the family a Christmas tree and another was quick enough to remind him if he was taking the kids a long to select the tree, he should pay in a way that the kids don’t realize who has done the payment and the dad comes out shining!
It was overwhelming the way people came out to help.
“Wow you are all so amazing!!! Just an update the water bill has been paid in full and almost all the power bill is paid!!! Only thing left is left over rent and I honestly don't think I can take anymore help I don't even know where to begin! I've been choking back tears all day I am in shock,” he posted.
Then he started using some of the help he got, using the help he got spreading out to others in need. So, at least this story had a happy ending, and the best thing was that the goodness didn’t stop at one place, the way people came out to help him, made him reach out to others.
His last post read, “Thank you all again. i honestly can't say that enough I hope I helped some other people out as well. I need to get home and go to bed as I got work at 5AM. Please No more donations you have all done so much already. I am eternally grateful to all of you. Pictures will be posted of Christmas and the gifts I have helped others with. Goodnight and thank you.”
