Hillary Clinton will be a concept on which the GOP can raise money, regardless of whether or not she runs for president.
Hillary Clinton may or may not run for President in 2016, but for now, Republicans are going to raise some money on the concept. A Republican group called America Rising launched a fundraising website to oppose the potential presidential candidacy of Hillary Clinton. What will America Rising do with your money? What is their plan for blocking Clinton's candidacy? What will they do if she doesn't run? The website does not answer these questions. Just hand over the cash and we'll do the rest:
"America Rising was formed to prevent Americans from ever having to see another Clinton in the White House. We’ve seen what a President Hillary Clinton would be like from her time as Secretary of State. We can’t afford another Clinton administration after eight years of President Obama.
To be successful in defeating Hillary we need you to contribute today. Our research efforts NOW will help us stop Hillary in 2016."
Okay, to be fair, they do get a little specific: research efforts! Yes, that is an important part of any political campaign. Good box to check. Here's the thing: that's all of the text on the StopHillary2016 website. No links to an "About Us" section or anything like that. To be fair, Hillary is probably running, she's the obvious pick to be the Democratic nominee (just like 2008), and she's going to be hard to beat. So, sure, the earlier you start the better. But, she might not run, she might not get the nomination if she does, and there is little guarantee that America Rising is a good organization to trust with your dollars. None of that will stop America Rising and other GOP operations from raising a lot of money on the specter of Hillary, however, because nothing motivates people like a good villain, and Hillary 2016 is the best villain the GOP has right now.
