Americans may not be excited about Donald Trump’s looming presidential inauguration, but people in Russia are definitely geared up for the momentous event where a racist reality TV star with no political or military experience will (officially) become one of the most powerful people in the world.
Case in point: A Russian metal-works company called Art-Grani has unveiled silver and gold coins featuring the billionaire business mogul’s face to commemorate his swearing in ceremony. The nearly 2-lb. medallion also features the Statue of Liberty along with an inscription that reads “In Trump We Trust.”
“There are more hopes associated with Trump with regards to the lifting of sanctions; maybe the environment (between the U.S. and Russia) will change,” company’s director Vladimir Vasyukhin told the Associated Press Television Network.
As of now, the company has only made 45 limited-edition coins, of which five are cast in gold. Each of them measures almost 5 inches in diameter and bears eerie similarity to coins made by the company featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin following the annexation of Crimea.
While there is no specific price yet, Vasyukhin said one of the silver coins will set you back a “few thousand dollars.” The company wants to present the first medallion to the incoming U.S. commander-in-chief in person. In fact, it has reportedly reached out to Russian diplomats and business executives to help arrange a meeting.
Considering Trump’s love for all things gold, he is undoubtedly going to love the memento (bigly).
The real estate developer’s close ties with Russia, particularly with Putin, have sparked serious controversy.
In a secret assessment, the CIA claimed Russia deliberately interfered in the U.S. election to help Trump get in the Oval Office. Later, top intelligence officials declared that Putin himself supervised the operation.
Just a week ago, CNN revealed that Russian spies have alleged personal and financial information about Trump that they can use to blackmail him. The network also claimed the president-elect and President Barack Obama had been briefed about it.
BuzzFeed later published the entire dossier the analysis was based on. The unverified memos not only said Russia had been feeding information to Trump, they also talked about Kremlin organizing and monitoring Trump’s various sexual activities.
Recently, the former reality TV star also talked about the possibility of lifting sanctions imposed on Russia.
