Instead of asking for dowry or any other material wealth, all this father wanted was a million likes for his Facebook page.

Instead of asking for dowry or any other material wealth, all this father wanted was a million likes for his Facebook page.

The dad in question is Salem Ayash and he is a poet from the city of Taiz in Yemen. Anyone who meets his demand will win his daughter’s hand in marriage.

There may be people out there criticizing Ayash’s opportunism, but a man has to go through great lengths to gain popularity on the social media nowadays.

Ayash’s daughter already has a suitor and the sole condition for him is to garner the 1 million likes demanded by the father. No-one in Yemen can afford dowries anymore.”

“He can take a month, a year, or even two years to collect the requested number of likes. If I see that he's worked hard, I'm willing to be flexible to see them happily married,” he said.

It makes one think of all the childhood tales where the valiant knight or a handsome shepherd had to cross the wicked witch’s lands to slay three headed-fire spewing dragons to marry the princess of a Kingdom.

Well, nothing that valiant or life threatening here just a million likes.

There may be people out there criticizing the opportunistic dad but a man must do what a man must do to gain popularity on social media these days.

According to statistics, Yemen has roughly  3,691,000 internet users out of its 24,771,809 population and we really don’t know how many out of those will be interested in his lady love’s dad’s poetry or even liking his page in the name of love.

We wish the prospective groom all the luck and guide him towards spending some money on Facebook to win his love as soon as possible.
