Several Injured After Cement Mixer Lorry Falls Onto Train


At 15.30 a cement mixer came off an overbridge at Oxshott in Surrey, landing on top of a South West Trains-operated service from Guildford to London Waterloo.

Early reports suggest there are no fatalities with four passengers suffering minor injuries. The lorry driver is believed to be more seriously injured.

In a statement, the rail operator said: “The vehicle landed on some of the train’s coaches of an eight-coach unit. So far, there are no reports of fatalities though it is believed there are several people injured.

“Network Rail personnel are on site and will be working with all emergency services.”

A British Transport Police spokesman added: “Police were called to the line near to Oxshott rail station after a report that a lorry had come off of a road bridge and landed on carriages of a passing passenger service.

“The incident was reported to police at 3.33pm. Officers are currently on scene, along with paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Surrey Fire service.
