With the assassination of Salman Taseer a couple months ago, Pakistan lost one of its liberal voices. The assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti - the only Christian Minister in the Pakistan Federal Government, another of those voices was silenced.
Shahbaz, Minister for Minority Affairs, was shot dead with more than 25 bullets by unknown assailants who opened fire on him as he was coming out of his mother's house in the Pakistani capital city of Islamabad. Even a bullet-proof car couldn't provide Shahbaz enough security against the agenda of the nefarious elements.
With a few dregs of sanity left in the society, it then bears contemplation of what's more to come for the country of Pakistan, which happens to be the biggest ally of US war on terror.
In these trying times for the people of Pakistan, the daughter of the slain governor, Shehrbano Taseer gives a very pointed interview that is equally courageous and talks about bringing power back to the people. Her ‘evolution not revolution’ argument echoes with a lot of young Pakistanis who have spoken out against the injustices that are carried out in the name of religion.
