How much do Republicans really love the military? A revealing new poll finds that not only is the Grand Old Party supportive of the military but they are totally okay with a military takeover.
A YouGov poll found that Republicans at 43 percent are more than twice as likely than their Democratic counterparts (20 percent) to support a military coup, eroding any faith in civilian control.
Republicans’ allegiance to patriotism seems to go amiss as they eagerly give up their “freedom” for total military control. As Republicans’ call out Democrats for our “un-American” attitudes, the hypocrisy of the right-wing party comes absurdly out of the closet to prove who really is un-American.
The poll’s conclusion is far from the revolutionary battle cries of violently overthrowing a Black president and “taking our country back” from President Obama’s darn socialist administration, but the message sent is still slathered in the GOP’s signature dressing of fear-mongering, nonetheless. In order to protect the Constitution and rid ourselves of politicians who are assumingly only out for themselves, a dramatic, forceful takeover by the military must occur. Republicans are so fearful and distrusting of government they see a coup as the only viable option.
