New Jersey Governor Chris Christie shocked the country with his endorsement of his former opponent and GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump.

Christie attacked Trump on numerous occasions while running against him and denounced several of his proposed plans for the presidency. Now, the tables have turned and Christie is “Team Trump” all the way.

Six New Jersey newspapers have taken issue with Christie’s new alliance with Trump; they came together to issue a joint editorial calling for Christie to resign as governor.

“We’re fed up with Gov. Chris Christie’s arrogance,” the papers wrote. “We’re fed up with his opportunism. We’re fed up with his hypocrisy. We’re fed up with his sarcasm. We’re fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda. We’re disgusted with his endorsement of Donald Trump after he spent months on the campaign trail trashing him, calling him unqualified by temperament and experience to be president.”

The Asbury Park Press, Bridgewater Courier-News, Cherry Hill Courier-Post, East Brunswick Home News Tribune, Vineland Daily Journal and the Morristown Daily Record are the six publications behind the request for Christie’s resignation.

This action follows a press conference Christie held during which he refused to respond to questions related to his shocking Trump endorsement simply because he didn’t "want to."

“For the good of the state, it’s time for Christie to do his long-neglected constituents a favor and resign as governor,” the papers wrote. “If he refuses, citizens should initiate a recall effort.”

Christie’s endorsement of Trump makes him look like an even bigger hypocrite than Trump, himself. It is a very clear move of an opportunist hoping that if Trump wins the White House, he will bring him along —maybe even going as far as to make him his Vice President.

Christie wasn’t really a favorable governor in the first place, but further neglecting his constituents and becoming one of Trump’s flunkies to push his own personal agenda has to be the lowest he has ever stooped.

He has abandoned any little bit of political integrity he once had by backing Trump politically and literally, as his awkward position and facial expression while standing behind Trump during a press conference in Palm Beach is also garnering ridicule from the Internet.

It’s evident that Christie is trying to remain relevant in any way possible. He jumped on the Trump train because he knew it would create a huge buzz in the media due to their tumultuous history and because a Trump presidency is becoming less of a cruel joke and more of a reality.

Christie sees a plausible chance to gain a higher political ranking — especially since his own presidential campaign failed so miserably.
