Lizzie Velasquez could've retreated after vicious Internet attacks cut through to her very soul. She decided to take action instead.

Once called the world’s ugliest woman, Lizzie Velasquez now refuses to let the horrible anonymous attacks on her looks keep her from a full life of helping others. Velasquez found a way to turn those messages of hate into words of empowerment for every underdog.

Velasquez was born with a congenital condition so rare it doesn't have a name. She has absolutely zero body fat, is unable to gain any weight and is blind in one eye.

Velasquez was searching through YouTube when she stumbled upon a video titled, “THE WORLD’S UGLIEST WOMAN,” and saw that it was a video of her. The video’s hurtful comments were beyond shocking and unimaginably painful to endure, but Velasquez amazingly turned all that into something positive.

A documentary on her life, A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Storyfollows the inspiring journey of 25-year-old, 58-pound Velasquez from cyberbullying victim to anti-bullying activist. She took all that hate and built a motivational fire. A Brave Heart premieres nationwide this weekend.

Velasquez has a YouTube channel with more than 468,000 subscribers who get to peek into her life.
