Once called the world’s ugliest woman, Lizzie Velasquez now refuses to let the horrible anonymous attacks on her looks keep her from a full life of helping others. Velasquez found a way to turn those messages of hate into words of empowerment for every underdog.
Velasquez was born with a congenital condition so rare it doesn't have a name. She has absolutely zero body fat, is unable to gain any weight and is blind in one eye.
Velasquez was searching through YouTube when she stumbled upon a video titled, “THE WORLD’S UGLIEST WOMAN,” and saw that it was a video of her. The video’s hurtful comments were beyond shocking and unimaginably painful to endure, but Velasquez amazingly turned all that into something positive.
A documentary on her life, A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story, follows the inspiring journey of 25-year-old, 58-pound Velasquez from cyberbullying victim to anti-bullying activist. She took all that hate and built a motivational fire. A Brave Heart premieres nationwide this weekend.
Velasquez has a YouTube channel with more than 468,000 subscribers who get to peek into her life.
