Stephen Hawking received a lot of vile Twitter abuse after the physicist decided to pull out of the conference hosted by Israeli President Shimon Peres as a protest against Israel’s aggression towards the Palestinians.
The renowned scientist and cosmologist has expressed his support for the academic boycott of Israel which has also been endorsed by the Teachers Union of Ireland along with the members of the Association for Asian American Studies in the United States.
A lot of negative online reaction followed after Hawking announced his decision. On Twitter, some people didn’t even hesitate to target the physicist’s disability.
in the real Islamic world, Stephen Hawking in his sickness, would have been put to death or been left to die a long time ago— Aryeh(@arye4life) May 9, 2013
After the outrage over ‘disgusting cripple jokes’ regarding Stephen Hawking spread, some people took down their tweets. But the screenshots are still available.
So, Stephen Hawking has come out as an antisemitic moronic piece of shit who supports Islamic terrorists. Noted.— JIDF (@JIDF) May 8, 2013
What in the hell is Stephen Hawking doing?! Boycotting the conference in Israel.... Keep your politics out of science. How stupid.— Ruth N (@RuthSNathaniel) May 9, 2013
Guys don't get mad at Stephen Hawking. It takes him a few years to even type one sentence, okay— Not Funny (@Khazano) May 8, 2013

I see. Stephen Hawking is just mad because all those greater and more accomplished have been Jews. He's a bitter little man.— R (@LibertyLynx) May 10, 2013
Stephen Hawking take a look in the mirror and then reconsider your newest Jew bashing entices.Bloody Fool !— Wynand L Burger (@BlouwildeWynie) May 9, 2013
The academic boycott from Stephen Hawking might’ve angered the Israelis but Palestinian activists are happy with his decision.
Calling him an Anti-Semitic or criticizing him for his disability will hopefully not change Hawking’s decision. Especially not now after the lower-than-low backlash he has received. Targeting someone’s disability only proves how ignorant people are when it comes to such matters.
