A man is in custody in Aruba in connection with the disappearance of an American woman, Robyn Gardner, 35, of Maryland, who went missing on the island earlier this month. The following video gives more information about the Aruba missing girl, including where she was last seen and the suspect they are currently holding.

Authorities are holding the man, 50-year-old Gary Giordano, also American, who reportedly accompanied the missing woman from Maryland, 35-year-old Robyn Gardner, on her trip to Aruba. She was last seen August 2 near Baby Beach on the western tip of the island, according to Ann Angela, spokeswoman for the Aruban prosecutor's office.

It’s unclear exactly what type of relationship Gardner and Giordano had, as Gardner had a boyfriend by the name of Richard Forester, also of Maryland. The two had argued over “the circumstances of her travel” to Aruba, and Forester last heard from her in a Facebook message in which she said they would “work it out” when she returned. Robyn Gardner Facebook activity stopped after that, but she also included a status update of this "this sucks" earlier in the day. The missing girl was not heard from after that.

Gary Giordano, the 50-year-old American believed to be the last person seen with Gardner, said that he had been snorkeling with Gardner near Baby Beach when he lost contact with her. He said she may have been swept out to sea, but authorities in Aruba aren’t buying it, as currents in the area are extremely calm, thus the name ‘Baby Beach.’

"The statements made by the traveling companion led to such questions that on Friday, August 5, 2011 it was decided to detain him for further questioning on the possible drowning of the woman," the prosecutor's office said in the statement.
