While there is debate going on in the United States over same sex marriages and gay rights, Argentina allowed gay marriages two years ago! Way to go Argentina. But that’s not all; Argentina just passed a bill whereby, all adults can change their sex according to their will! Not only that, but if they want to undergo medical procedures including surgery and hormonal therapy to get their sex changed or appearances altered, the treatments will be fully covered by their health care providers, whether public or private.
What’s more, any adult will be able to officially change his or her gender, image and birth name without having to get official approval from anywhere. In fact not only adults’ youth can also take advantage of the right, provided their parents or legal guardians approve. They are also given the right to specify how their gender is listed at the civil registry.
President Cristina Fernandez was in full support of the law. Argentina was also Latin America's first nation to legalize gay marriage enabling thousands of same-sex couples to wed and enjoy the same legal rights as other married couples. So far, apart from Argentina, only Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland recognize gay marriages.
