In the latest development of the curious case of Bowe Bergdahl, the story's protagonist (or antagonist, depending on who you believe) has reminded people of the Game of Thrones character, Theon Greyjoy.
The US army Sergeant was freed by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan last weekend in exchange for five senior terrorists, and now his former captors have released the video of their swap deal. The sight of him with his captors brought back the memories of Theon and his master Ramsay Snow – fictional characters penned by George R. R. Martin.
The video in question starts with Bergdahl arriving with his captors in a Toyota 4x4. Surrounding him are militants holding white flags, with their faces covered in scarves. More of them are hiding in the hills, carefully observing every move and are ready to fire their rocket propelled grenades if any foul play is detected.
Moments later, a Black Hawk helicopter arrives and three men in civilian clothing approach Taliban militants. Following a few handshakes, they escort Bergdahl back to the helicopter but pat him down thoroughly before taking him onboard.
Dressed in traditional Afghani clothing, Bergdahl looked very calm and composed despite knowing that a wrong move could end his life there and then.
The prison release was a lot more friendlier than the ones seen in the movies. The two parties shook hands and the freed prisoner seemed in no hurry to go back to his camp either.
Bergdahl is currently being examined in Germany for psychological injuries and is expected back home in a few days.
