Sharon Turbiak, a teacher at Webster Elementary School in Michigan has been terminated following an internal investigation into allegations that she abused preschool children with special needs and requirements. Sharon who had been teaching at the school for nearly 14 years has decided to appeal against the decision.
On the other hand parents are furious because she has not been charged with a crime for the lack of sufficient evidence. Furthermore, school officials refuse to release any findings related to the investigation which further adds to the fury of parents. Sources report that the teacher has been accused of slapping, grabbing and force feeding special-needs preschoolers in her classroom, along with other unprofessional classroom management practices.
Keeping in mind the nature of allegations raised against Sharon, parents are now afraid of sending their children to the institute. Lauren Gohl, whose 4-year-old son suffers from brain abnormality called hydrocephalus, said that even the slightest injury on her child’s brain can prove fatal for him.
At the same time Lauren, like other parents, also demands that the details of the report be released as it is their right as parents to know. Incidents of children being abused at the hands of their teachers either physically or verbally has become an increasingly common practice these days.
A couple of months back the video of Stuart Chaifetz and his son Atkin went viral when it revealed the severe verbal and emotional abuse inflicted upon his child by his classroom teacher.
