Greg Abbott’s fear of the (imaginary) military takeover of his state by President Barack Obama is well-documented. But a new tweet by the Texas governor takes his paranoia to a whole new level.
As Obama contemplates executive action to introduce tighter regulations on firearms purchases, Abbott is gearing up for an armed battle with the commander-in-chief of the United States.
At least, that’s what this tweet by the Texan politician suggests.
Using a cannon barrel in response to new gun control measures, Abbott, a staunch supporter of Second Amendment gun rights, is essentially presenting a challenge to the president. It is, of course, absurd considering Obama is not planning to deprive Texas of weapons.

The new rules will reportedly require private/unlicensed dealers to obtain a license and conduct background checks as well as prevent people on the no-fly list from purchasing guns. The measures come as after more than 12,223 people were killed in the country by firearms in 2015, and at least 24,722 people injured.
While details are not yet available, one thing can be said with certainty: Obama is not trying to invade Texas. But Abbott doesn’t seem to understand this.
Last year, the Texas governor made headlines after he endorsed a bogus martial law conspiracy theory called “Jade Helm 15” and even directed state guard to monitor the (make-believe) operation.
