Texas Republicans Want Gays To Go To 'Reparative' Therapy

Texas Republicans build their new party platform around 'ex-gay therapy,' snubbing pretty much every medical expert.

We're in the middle of a gay rights revolution in the United States, but that's news to Republicans in Texas.

The party's new draft platform not only denounces "homosexual behavior," it advocates for so-called conversion therapy for gay people.

Just to be clear, this is the same backward, nonsense "therapy" experts have called harmful and presents an increased risk for depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. And, oh yeah, it plain doesn't work

The Republican Party of Texas won't let a little thing like science and facts stand in the way. The draft platform states:

"Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public policy, nor should family be redefined to include homosexual couples. ... We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle."

There's that pesky problem with facts again -- homosexuality is not defined by any legitimate medical body as a condition that requires "treatment."

Read the whole draft platform of the Republican Party of Texas here. Don't miss the part where Republicans say they "strongly support a women's right to choose" -- to devote her life to her family.
