The suspect in a car chase and shootout in Texas, who police say may be linked to the slaying of the Colorado prison chief, has died, officials in Tarrant County, Texas, said on Friday.

The man was pronounced dead Thursday evening and an autopsy was being performed on Friday morning, said Roger Metcalf, director of the human identification lab at the medical examiner's office in Tarrant County.

The man has not been officially identified, Metcalf said.

Police have said the man may be tied to the shooting earlier this week of Tom Clements, who was appointed two years ago as executive director of the Colorado Department of Corrections, at his home in a secluded wooded area near the town of Monument, 45 miles south of Denver.
