This is definitely a true act of bravery. A partially paralyzed man who in fear on his balcony as flames raged behind him was rescued by the courageous and persistent efforts of neighbors and firefighters to coax him down. After fire broke out at Pete Lui’s Racine Wisconsin home, the disabled man was only able to walk out onto his porch.

Watching the blaze break out Lui’s neighbor called 911 for help, whereas, her husband Edwardo, got hold of a ladder to help the man climb down. “He was afraid to come down the ladder because he didn’t want to hurt himself or anyone else." Martinez said.

Even though the thick smoke was overwhelming, Martinez continued encouraging Lui until fireman arrived at the scene. In the daring rescue the firefighters were able to safely cradle Lui who was then taken to Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
