The GOP, which is already responsible for creating a monster of a presidential candidate, has put their foot in their mouth – but won’t admit it. As usual, social media went in flames while roasting the Republican party.
The Republican Party wrongly accused Hillary Clinton, the then-Secretary of State, of being responsible for the death of four U.S. citizens during a terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic offices in Libya on September 11, 2012.
After $7m in taxpayer funds & 2 years, R's #Benghazi report fails to alter core conclusions of the 8 other investigations that went before.— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) June 28, 2016
After spending $7 million of tax-payers’ dollars on a two-year investigation, the GOP has concluded that the Benghazi attacks were the result of a slow military response and found no new evidence against Hillary Clinton.
What's more, as Twitter user Susan Davis pointed out, more effort was put into the Benghazi report by the Republicans than the 9/11 Commission report:
The Benghazi Committee report is 800 pages. The 9/11 Commission Report was around 600 pages.— Susan Davis (@DaviSusan) June 28, 2016
While speaking to the public, Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) refused to admit that the Democratic presidential nominee did not lie about her involvement in the Benghazi attack, but instead blamed the Obama administration more generally.
“Read the report,” he said to reporters, shirking direct responsibility. Twitter had a field day with Gowdy's repeated pointing to the report, instead of directly answering reorter's questions.
Asked directly by a reporter if Hillary Clinton lied about Benghazi, Rep Gowdy will only say 'read the report'— Jamie Dupree (@jamiedupree) June 28, 2016
Striking/odd to see Benghazi committee members keep saying "decide for yourself" and "draw your own conclusions" after 2 year probe— Vera Bergengruen (@VeraMBergen) June 28, 2016
The Democrats called the process which resulted in an 800-page report a “conspiracy theory on steroids, bringing back long-debunked allegations with no credible evidence whatsoever.”
If I were a right-wing extremist who thought HRC is a demonic always-lying socialist who covered-up Benghazi, I'd be very sad today.— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) June 28, 2016
By the GOP denying that they were wrong to drag Clinton through a two year investigation, they only prove how spineless they are.
They have not only supported Donald Trump through his unabashedly racist campaign, but have shown their misogynistic roots lie deeper than some rude remarks that Trump has made about women.
Clinton's own response to the Republican's witch hunt is worth watching, as it offers her a chance to prove what she is: human.
