The online world can create memes even out of something as serious as the United States government shutdown that can cost the American economy, according to HIS Inc., at least $300 million a day.
A number of government agencies and programs stopped functioning on Tuesday as a result of a dispute between the Republican Party and President Obama-led Democrat Party. The Grand Old Party (GOP) refused to fund and implement the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare, a move that eventually led to a government shutdown which may last for weeks.
While many think the situation will be resolved with compromise between the two parties, The Washington Post’s foreign affairs blogger Max Fisher had a very interesting cue for Obama in his latest piece. Fisher pointed out a very interesting fact from Australia’s political history. He wrote that when the Australian government underwent a shutdown in 1975, the queen fired everyone in Parliament.
