Just a day after Nelson Mandela’s memorial, all people want to talk about is Obama’s selfies at the event, how he was ‘frolicking’ with Danish PM Helle Thorning-Schmidt and US first lady Michelle Obama reacting like a jealous wife.
The online reaction ranges from tongue-in-cheek funny to absurd, and in some cases, rather offensive.
Michelle Obama the typical angry black female when it comes to her man talking to another woman lmaoo pic.twitter.com/InC1ngxWj6— DECEMBER 17th (@JustinGotJokess) December 11, 2013

It may be hard for people to comprehend, but Michelle wore a somber look, which would be appropriate for a memorial service. Yes, the event may have been lighthearted with singing and dancing, but that doesn’t mean everyone was in a festive mood.
The media, especially the social media, has the tendency to show just part of the picture, and create a buzz when there is none. In this case, they conveniently brushed aside pictures of Helle Thorning-Schmidt and Michelle Obama having a friendly conversation.
And then there’s the image of the switched places.
It sent everyone in a frenzy that has yet to subside.
But really, is the media that hungry for a sensationalism that they turn a legendary hero’s memorial service into a paparazzi/gossip fest? Perhaps the media tried to unnecessarily spice up the event by churning out a
a jealous-wife tale rather than sticking to basic facts.
Michelle Obama is a serious woman, yes she smiles, laughs andeven dances around, but we have seen picture after picture of in over the last five years with an identical expression to the one she held at the memorial service.
This is how the lady dances for crying out loud:
This is her expression while giving a high-five:
And telling the world her husband is ‘cute’:
This is how she smiles most of the time:
Face it-This is the most generic Michelle expression:
She even says it herself:
This is not to say Michelle doesn’t smile. She does; and it’s a radiant smile that wholly transforms her.
Michelle is someone who prefers to hold a single expression, regardless of whether her husband is flirting with another world leader.
It really is time the media grew up and stopped blowing things out of proportion as in this case.
