The Internet Never Forgets: Josh Duggar's 2008 Incest Joke

Josh Duggar recently admitted to crimes of molestation and incest. In light of this, a 2008 video of Duggar joking about incest seems deeply troubling. The signs were there, and the Internet remembered.

Maybe back in 2008 we could have brushed this off as a tasteless joke (with considerable discomfort nonetheless), but in light of Josh Duggar’s recent confession to having molested at least five underage girls, including his own sisters, this recently unearthed video is rather chilling.

In the video, Duggar recalls needing a chaperone his date with then-fiancée Anna.

“So, we chose Jana and John David,” Duggar says, referring to his siblings, “We thought why not have a double date? We are from Arkansas!”

In another example of the Internet’s indelible memory, mic.com reports on family patriarch Jim Bob’s statement, from his 2002 Republican Senate run, that “rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes."

Perhaps if Jim Bob hadn’t known about his son’s crimes, this would read less hypocritical. But it’s clear that he did know, and that he and his wife Michelle hid the scandal for years.
