We all know that there is a massive divide between the rich and poor in most economies. This divide has been increasing at an alarming rate since the 1970s, at least in the United States.
So what do we do about the poor? Some say nothing, let them take care of themselves. Some say redistributive policies like progressive taxation and universal healthcare.
Regardless of where you come down in that debate, there is an important fact about America today that tends to get left out: the rich get more government assistance than the poor. The corporations get the most. The poor, and the most needy get the smallest slice of the pie.
