A recent Carbonated news story featured pictures of three men: James Edwards, Chancey Luna, and Michael Jones accused of murdering Australian baseball player Christopher Lane. That story is still ongoing, yet new evidence has raised questions regarding the first “official” photos released of the three suspects. In particular is the picture of Michael Jones. Michael Jones is shown as a black man with a bandanna over his face. In reality, Michael Jones is white.
The real Michael Jones is pictured to the right. James Edwards and Chancey Lane appear to be the same in both photos. The incorrect photo of Michael Jones is still being used on a number of news sites. The picture is vaguely attributed to a “Channel 7 News” which claims the HeraldSun as its own source.
It is currently unknown who posted this incorrect photo of Michael Jones, or who the bandanna-wearing youth actually is.
In an era of must-be-first news reporting, mistakes likes these are far too common. The murder of Christopher Lane is looking to become one of the biggest news stories this year, and for so many news sites to post an anonymous black man as a criminal is unacceptable.
I apologize on behalf of Carbonated for posting the incorrect image, but I know that I posted the image with probable reason it was correct. News 7 does not have that claim. News 7 wanted to be the one to break the story and be linked to the first known pictures of the three men who allegedly murdered Michael Jones. They screwed it up.
