You think nine months is hard? What about 60 years of pregnancy?

91-year-old pregnant woman

Doctors believed 91-year-old Estela  Meléndez had a tumor in her stomach, the problem turned out be much less worrisome than perceived.

Meléndez, who resides in the small Chilean town of La Boca, has had small lump on her belly for years, but didn’t do much investigation into the mysterious bump. After a fall, doctors examined Meléndez and assumed the X-ray was showing a tumor. But a second X-ray revealed the tumor was actually a calcified fetus in her uterus! Doctors believe the fetus has been inside of her for six decades.

"Can you imagine? More than 60 years!" said Luis Meléndez, the woman's nephew. "I wonder how she never felt bad once the fetus died inside of her."

Doctors considered operating to remove the fetus, but decided that surgery was a lot more riskier for the 91-year-old woman than just leaving the fetus alone.

Meléndez and her husband of 74 years, who passed away at the age of 91 in January, had always considered having children but were unable to — a huge regret for the couple.

Meléndez says that the discovery of the fetus is a cherished reminder of the baby the two always dreamed of having.
