TV presenter Dan Lobb couldn’t possibly have thought his easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Belfast would be this “eventful.” His flight was delayed, and as the reason behind it became obvious, he couldn’t help but sharing it with his followers on Twitter:
This is a first. My @easyJet flight has returned to gate because the cabin crew have had a tiff! 1 crew member being offloaded. Delayed.— Dan Lobb (@danlobb) August 24, 2016
Yes, the flight was delayed for an hour because two crew members couldn’t stop bickering long enough to get on with their duties.
The issue: They were “fighting over water bottles.”
The flight had to return to the departure gate, where two of the crew were replaced with two others.
Lobb also shared a picture of captain of the plane, who spoke to passengers to explain the situation:
"Please be patient with us" says the captain. Water being offered. Suggests those at the back should come to the front where it's cooler...— Dan Lobb (@danlobb) August 24, 2016
Loads of kids on this flight, a few babies - what a ridiculous situation. Captain doing his best but everyone is agog! @easyJet— Dan Lobb (@danlobb) August 24, 2016
The fight eventually took off:
The airline responded: “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY835 from London Gatwick to Belfast returned to stand to replace two crew members following a verbal disagreement between them.”
“The safety and welfare of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and in order to deliver this easyJet's cabin crew need to be able to work as a team.”
“We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by the resulting delay. The flight has now continued to Belfast.”
Right, one of the original crew is doing a safety briefing. Time to change mode. I hope we've all learned something here today @easyJet— Dan Lobb (@danlobb) August 24, 2016
Landed roughly 90 mins late. To all news people asking, feel free to use pic. In the circumstances the captain spoke really well to us!— Dan Lobb (@danlobb) August 24, 2016
No one wants their travel plans to be foiled, but unfortunately it happens quite often.
However, not all passengers take the delays as coolly as Lobb did. Not long ago, authorities at the Beijing Capital International Airport had to arrest five passengers who got in to a brawl over a fight delay that only ended after local police escorted the perpetrators off the plane.
Then, there was the American Airline passenger whose epic meltdown over a flight delay made headlines across the world.
