Donald Trump stacks lies on top of lies on a regular basis and rarely admits the truth, but Friday morning he shocked us all by revealing he never saw the “top-secret” footage of a monetary exchange between the United States and Iran.

In a poorly executed attempt to take some attention away from the crazy antics of his family and campaign staff, Trump publicly declared that he had seen video footage of a plane unloading money on the same day that the Iranian government released four American detainees.

He set off the rumor that the money was some kind of under-the-table ransom to get the prisoners back.

Now, he is finally admitting that he saw no such video, thus further proving he is a habitual liar.

“The plane I saw on television was the hostage plane in Geneva, Switzerland, not the plane carrying $400 million in cash going to Iran!” Trump tweeted.

He did not follow up with any explanation for how he mistook the video to be depicting something else — which is probably because there isn't one, other than the fact that he wanted to scandalize President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

He previously claimed the footage he saw was filmed by the Iranian government to use as propaganda to embarrass the United States. However, his own spokeswoman debunked his tall tale by clarifying that the video was of the prisoners being released.

While we know Trump has lied many times before, this latest fabrication is reminiscent of last year's incident in which he claimed he saw footage of “thousands” of Muslims cheering on rooftops in New Jersey following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Alas, there was absolutely no footage to be found matching what Trump described.

Instead of diverting attention away from himself, he has only done more damage to his character and his campaign.

It’s clear he doesn’t care much about his train wreck of a campaign because he has yet to even offer an apology to Americans for misleading them with false information.

Shortly after posting his tweet about the video, he went right back to insulting Clinton, declaring that she is “unfit” to be president.

Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
