Donald Trump continues to court controversy and make absurd claims for his presidency he will never been able to enact—his most recent declaration pledges to introduce an executive order that will mandate the death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer.
Trump may not be aware, but 19 states have outlawed capital punishment, so it remains unclear, as always, exactly how he will enforce these increasingly bizarre laws.
He spoke to a police officers’ union in New Hampshire Thursday evening, proclaiming, “Anybody killing a policeman, a policewoman, a police officer, anybody killing a police officer: Death penalty is going to happen, okay? The police and the law enforcement in this country — I will never ever let them down, just remember that.”
This has actually gained the support of the New England Police Benevolent Association (which has over 5,000 members) who endorsed Trump. Their executive director, Jerry Flynn, stated that, “‘Listen, our message very clear: It’s what is the next president of the United States going to do to unite this country in an effort to save police officers? Because it’s open season on police officers.”
Open season on police officers? More like open season on minorities, considering the shocking increase in police brutality within the last few years.
Trump also expressed his approval for increased police militarization (one of the aspects contributing to police brutality)—he told the crowd, ‘‘You know they’re taking away the military equipment,’’ which is apparently a “tremendous mistake” for the country.
Just your daily dose of Trump’s insanity.
