Twitter has shut down the main Twitter handle of Al-Shabab,Somalia's al-Qaida linked terror group for the second time this year due to violation its terms of service which clearly states that it does not allow specific threats of violence against others in its posts. Al-Shabab on the other hand mainly uses this social media platform for similar purposes.
The closure took place a few days after the account tweeted about a failed assassination attempt against Somalia's president.
Last month, a United Nations report on Somalia stated that experts believe this account is handled by a British member of Al-Shabab.
The previous Twitter account for the group was also closed after it announced a death threat against Kenyan hostages.
The question that arises over here is that is it better to shut these social media accounts or to keep them working in order to gather information about their plans and activities.
